DPR Boost Camps were launched in the summer of 2021 as part of the citywide effort to accelerate learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Boost Camp concept was developed from the foundation previously laid by DPR Enrichment Camps.
DPR Enrichment Camps, which operated in school facilities, provided at-risk youth with the summer camp experience in a safe and positive environment with recreational activities and programs to discourage negative social behaviors.
Boost Camp re-imagined this platform by partnering with public and charter schools in the District to develop school-based camp programs with a substantial learning component. Boost Camps offer a combination of high-quality enrichment and recreation in addition to an academic component to accelerate learning.
In these camps, dedicated professionals guide campers through a camp experience that features balanced child development, relationship building with their peers, and a challenging yet fun learning environment.
Camp operates in 1-week or 2-week sessions for up to 6 weeks. Classes are small and limited to 10-13 students per teacher. The day is a combination of academic instruction and social-emotional learning with additional access to physical activities like swimming, dance, and group fitness. There will also be time for arts and crafts, games, puzzles, and free play.
In 2022, Boost Camp expanded to include specialty enrichment camps geared toward the tween population. These camp experiences for youth ages 11-13 provide intensive exposure and time to acquire an understanding of a specialty area. Among the specialty camps are Rocket Camp, Robotics Camp, Esports Camp, Journalism Camp and Drone Camp
